Large, quite rich specimen fairly well-crystallized samarskite-(Y) with no matrix from the Deep Creek No. 1 mine, Bryson City, Swain County, North Carolina, USA. Measures ~75,000 CPM on my Ludlum Model 3 Counter with the 44-9 probe. Great example of this unusual rare earth element mineral from a classic and quite unusual North Carolina locality! Rare!!
